Living Life on Purpose

What does a writer do when she isn’t writing? I can’t speak for all writers, but life for me is something of a patchwork quilt.

Loving: The jewel bright shapes and colours that are brought to my life by family and friends are essential for all that I do.I’m married to a dentist, now retired, and we have five adult children and 13 grandchildren, with 2 more on the way. Unfortunately none of the grandchildren live near by but they are still a constant source of information and instruction on all things technological, and had me signed up for Facebook before I could blink this summer!

Living: One of the most challenging of my life’s ‘patchwork pieces’ is my role as a magistrate. This means that I sit in Court as part of a ‘bench’ of three lay Justices of the Peace. We’re involved in the initial hearing of 93% of all criminal cases, and try any offence that would incur a fine, community penalty or imprisonment for up to six months.

Laughing: When Gordon and I can remove our noses from our respective computer screens we love entertaining, walking, reading and travel. We lead a small group from our church, where together we learn more about applying our faith to every day life and support one another in the ups and downs we all face.

Learning: I love discovering new things, and find people endlessly fascinating. At the moment I’m on a steep learning curve with digital photography and creating a new garden.

Leaving a Legacy: Writers in the ‘hard’ countries of the world, where there is little Christian literature that is written by those who live there, are people who are close to my heart. So I give time to mentoring and encouraging them, acting as a cross-cultural trainer for Media Associates Int. www.littworld.org
